The sharpener has a container (1) for storing the pencil strips, provided with a sharpener insert (3) at its opening. The insert has a guide cone and a blade (15) and the neck of the container has a cross section which forms a hollow cylinder. The internal cross section of the neck is so narrow, and the insert has such a position in the neck, that the inner curved surface (23) of the neck turns a peel which emerges from a slit by the blade, towards the inside of the container. The central axis (20) of the cone may form an acute angle (24) with the neck, so that the angle (25) between the cutting edge of the blade and the longitudinal axis (9) of the container wall, is larger than the angle (26) formed on the other side of the sharpener between the curved surface and the longitudinal direction of the container wall.
