Chemical reactor for adsorptive separation processes has upright cylindrical mantle

A chemical reactor esp. for adsorptive separation processes has an upright cylindrical mantle containing a bed filled with a loose granular material. The bed is held in the cavity formed by two concentric baskets of different diameter with a common base. The reactor has a number of gas inlets and outlets between the mantle and the outer basket within the inner basket and outlets. The bed is mostly circular over its entire length, and forms an overhead hood. The novelty is that: (a) a symmetrical cylindrical displacement body (18) is positioned and occupying space within the chamber (4) formed within the inner basket; and (b) displacement body (18) narrows cone-like towards its base, and is dome-shaped at the top. Also claimed is a process for the adsorptive separation of nitrogen from a mixture of gases e.g. air, or for the adsorptive separation of carbon dioxide from a mixture of gases esp. an effluent reduction gas.
