The present invention relates to a pump, especially a high pressure pump for use in a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine, provided with a pump casing (10) with, on the one hand, at least one working space located between an inlet area (15) and a feeding area (20) operatively linked inside the pump casing (24), an actuating element (16) being mounted in said working space and, on the other hand, at least one pump shaft (14) inside the pump casing (10), which enables the actuating element (16) to be operated. In order to reduce the length of the construction and extend the service life of the pump, it is provided that the pump casing (10) be secured to a wall (45) of the motor crankcase (45'), with the possibility for the pump shaft (14, 14') of being radially laid onto a shaft (46) mounted inside the motor crankcase (45').
