Method of painting motor vehicle body

The motor vehicle body part is lockable and during the painting is at least partially in an open position. An open-holding part is fitted on the body part. The vehicle body part is held by the open-holding part selectively in at least two different predetermined positions which are reproducible by the geometry of the open-holding part. At least one position detecting element is fitted on the open-holding part, by which the open position and securing of the vehicle body part is queried. The open-holding part may be fixed to the vehicle body by a multi-actuatable securing device.
