PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material with an excellent high luminance light emitting characteristic by including a perylene compound alone or as a perylene mixture in at least one layer of organic thin film layers including a light emitting layer. SOLUTION: At least, one layer of organic thin film layers of an organic electroluminescent element including a light emitting layer arranged between a cathode and an anode includes a perylene compound selected from the compounds shown by the formula I or a perylene mixture. For example, a perylene compound shown by the formula I is included in a light emitting layer, a hole carrying layer, and an electron carrying layer. In the formula I, R1-R12 individually represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, or a substituted/unsubstituted amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, an alkenyl group and the like. At least one of the R1-R12 is a diaryl amino group having a styryl substituting group showy by the formula II. In the formula II, R13-R23 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a substituted/unsubstituted amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, and the like.
