PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently sort articles without enlarging the size equipment by introducing a storage function to a sorting device. SOLUTION: A sorting device is arranged with a control mean 5 so that transport carriage groups 2A and 2B comprising a number of carriages 2a1, 2a2, etc., and 2b1, 2b2, etc., each connected to form an endless chain, are circulatingly moved along guideways to convey articles supplied from an article supply mechanism 3, and that at least a part of the carriages constituting the transport carriage groups 2A and 2B, which deliver the articles to an article sorting mechanism 4, of a sorting device transports the articles supplied from the article supply mechanism 3 without delivering them to the article sorting mechanism 4 immediately, to temporarily store them while being loaded thereon, and delivers them to the article sorting mechanism 4 as required.
