PURPOSE: An absolute position detecting device of an electric rack bar is provided to detect the absolute position of the rack bar accurately in operating a steering wheel, and to reduce unnecessary power consumption by directly contacting a movable bar of an LVDT(Linear Variable Differential Transformer) to an inclined portion of the rack bar. CONSTITUTION: An electric power steering system has an LVDT(160) measuring the displacement of the absolute position of a rack bar(110) in rotating a steering wheel(100). An absolute position detecting device comprises an inclined portion(112) tilted in the rack bar, the LVDT contacted to the inclined portion and formed in a vehicle body panel to convert linear displacement of the rack bar into electric signals, a control unit(130) controlling units corresponding to electric signals from the LVDT, a power supply unit(140) supplying current according to the signals from the control unit, and a driving unit(150) actuating the rack bar by current from the power supply unit.
