PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance and a method for evaluating a prognosis of a patient suffering from an acute coronary syndrome. SOLUTION: The level of BNP or a marker related to the BNP in a patient sample provides prognosis information useful for predicting near-term morbidity and/or mortality, as to the full range of the acute coronary syndromes, for example, an unstable angina, non-ST-elevation non-Q-wave myocardial infarction, ST-elevation non-Q-wave MI and transmural (Q-wave) MI, independently or by combination thereof with one or more of another prognosis marker.
