<p>An enhanced biocidal composition based on grapefruit seed extract is suitable for use on a variety of surfaces including skin. The composition includes a mixture of acids, e.g. glycolic acid which acts as a secondary biocide and lactic acid which acts as a pH buffer, which is part-neutralised by addition of an organic or inorganic base to bring the final pH to within the range of 4 to 5. Aminotrimethylene phosphonic acid enhances the biocidal properties. An aqueous carrier incorporating an organic solvent, an oil/water coupling agent, a surface wetting agent and a surfactant provide improved surface cleaning and a prolonged period of activity. A skin emollient is included for dermal use, and a preservative ensures long shelf life.</p> |
