<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hand-held LCD game machine allowing a player to play a game with a rectangular LCD part in the vertical state when game software for vertical scrolling is used and to play a game with the rectangular LCD part in the horizontal state when game software for horizontal scrolling is used. <P>SOLUTION: In the hand-held LCD game machine, a first control means is disposed at such a position that the player can control the control means with the thumb of one hand, and a second control means is disposed at such a position that the player can control the control means with the thumb of the other hand when the game machine is held with both hands. A game is developed in the LCD part of the hand-held LCD game machine by loading a game cartridge. The LCD part is rectangular-shaped, and the first and second control means are disposed near one side of the LCD part and apart from each other.
