PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passing object detection device provided with a function for detecting a dishonest act. SOLUTION: A light projection apparatus 3a and a light quantity measuring apparatus 3b are arranged on one side of the passing object detection device, and a reflector 4 is arranged on the other side, and the part between the both forms a detection region 5. Light emitted by the projection apparatus 3a is reflected by a passing object or the reflector 4, the quantity of reflected light is measured by the measuring apparatus 3b, and the detection device 2 detects the existence of a passing object. The detection device is equipped with a distance measuring means 6 for measuring the distance from the measuring apparatus 3b up to the reflector 4. The detection device is equipped with an informing means 8 for informing that at least one of the reflector 4 and the measuring apparatus 3b moves. The detection device is equipped with a distance comparison means 6 for comparing a distance from the measuring apparatus 3b up to the reflector 4 measured beforehand and the distance measured by the measuring means 6, and informs by the informing means 8 when the difference between the both deviates from a predetermined range set beforehand.
