A display device is provided to perform displaying based on the contrast in a relatively bright illumination environment and perform displaying based on a color reproductivity in a relatively dark illumination environment. A signal input unit controls a utilization factor of a W signal. A color signal converting unit calculates an RGBW(Red, Green, Blue, White) drive signal from an RGB input signal and the utilization factor of the W signal. The color signal converting unit includes a plurality of types of calculation units for calculating the W(White) signal from the RGB input signal and the W utilization factor, and a selecting unit for selecting a plurality of W signal calculating units.
