PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To airtightly fuse a top cover to a concave in which an exhaust passage (safety valve mechanism ) of a battery case lid is formed. SOLUTION: This is a fusion method of a top cover in a concave in which an exhaust passage of a battery case lid is formed. The battery case lid 1 is arranged on a plane member 2 and its required part is pressed from the above by a pressing member 3 to hold the concave 5 of the battery case lid 1 in a flat state, and with this state, a top cover 6 is fused (thermal fusion, ultrasonic fusion or the like) to the concave 5. Since the top cover 6 is fused to the concave 5 held in flat state, the top cover 6 is excellently (airtightly) fused. Therefore, the lead acid storage battery obtained is superior in airtightness.
