The present invention relates to a mobile terminal capable of performing a function related to a geo-fence function, and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal comprises: a position information module which measures a position of the mobile terminal; a motion sensing unit which senses a movement of a user; and a control unit which activates an inactive position measuring function of the mobile terminal according to a movement sensing result to determine whether the mobile terminal has escaped from a geo-fence area, calculates an expected arrival time necessary for arriving at a geo-fence area, which is closest to a currently-measured position of the mobile terminal, according to an escape determination result, and switches the position measuring function to an inactive state during the calculated expected arrival time. After the expected arrival time elapsed, the control unit determines whether the mobile terminal has entered the geo-fence area from the position of the mobile terminal, recalculates the expected arrival time based on an entrance determination result, and inactivates the position measuring function during the recalculated expected arrival time or inactivates the position measuring function until the function is activated according to the movement sensing result. By using the present invention, the geo-fence can be utilized more efficiently. |
