VIDEO INTRA PREDICTION MODE FAST SELECTION METHOD AND DEVICE

The present application relates to the field of video processing. Disclosed are a video intra prediction mode fast selection method and device. The selection method provided in the present application comprises the following steps: obtaining a gradient amplitude and a gradient angle of each element in a prediction block; counting the gradient angles and generating a gradient angle histogram of the prediction block; if a texture smoothing degree of the prediction block is greater than a first preset threshold, determining the prediction block as a first type of prediction block, and setting a prediction mode of the first type of prediction block to only comprise a direct-current (DC) prediction mode and a planar prediction mode; if the texture smoothing degree of the prediction block is less than a second preset threshold, determining the prediction block as a second type of prediction block, and setting an angle prediction mode of the second type prediction block to comprise an angle prediction mode corresponding to a maximum peak value in the gradient angle histogram. The present application can effectively reduce a number of candidates upon conducting a rate-distortion optimization (RDO) (the calculation of RDO is quite complex and time-consuming), thus reducing the amount of calculations, and improving calculation efficiency.
