The invention relates to a motor vehicle manual gearbox with six forwards gears and one reverse gear. The gear wheels (100, 101, 102, 103, 7, 6) for the forwards gears are arranged on a drive shaft (3) and an output shaft (4). On the free end of the drive shaft (3) a small gear wheel (9) for the reverse gear is arranged so that it lies in one plane with a large gear wheel (12) arranged on the free end of the output shaft (4) but does not mesh with the latter. For the reverse gear an intermediate gear wheel is displaced between a first and second position by an engaging device, the intermediate gear wheel in the first position meshing solely with the small gear wheel (9) and in the second position both with the small gear wheel (9) and with the large gear wheel (12). <IMAGE>
