Removal of an acid gas from a gas is carried out with an amine absorbing soln. (I), with removal of the sludge from (I). The novel feartures are that (a) a stream of regenerated (I) is contacted with CO2 so that the sludge forms a ppte.; and (b) the ppte. is removed from the (I) stream. (I) contains a sterically hindered amine (II) and a solvent (III), pref. 2-piperidinoethanol (IIA) and sulpholane (IIIA), and pref. also water. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is claimed for removing H2S and CO2 from a gas. It is also suitable for removing SO2, SO3, CS2, HCN, COS and O and S derivs. of 1-4C hydrocarbons. The sludge content is kept almost constant by removing it from lean (I), rather than from rich (I) (with a high H2S content), which is dangerous.
