A small and lightweight fan heater is powered by a portable electric battery capable of storing enough charge for one or two brief periods of heating of the passenger compartment. After use, this battery can be recharged, e.g from the main battery of the vehicle via the cigar lighter socket. For this purpose it may, but need not, be detached from the heater. The appts. can be used also for defrosting the windows of the vehicle. ADVANTAGE - Inexpensive and comfortably operable heater is independent of vehicle's electric power supply.
