FI 9-85-035 ORGANOMETALLIC-DERIVED CORDIERITE AND OTHER COMPOUNDS COMPRISING OXIDES OF SILICON The present invention provides a method of synthesizing amorphous cordierite-forming glasses from organometallic precursors. Either the sol-gel/ .beta.-diketonate technique or the amorphouschelating hydroxycarboxylate process can be used advantageously. The method of the present invention can also be used to form 5 component comprised and 2 component comprised amorphous compositions wherein one of the components is an oxide of silicon.
