PURPOSE:To manufacture a metal honeycomb carrier in which a plain sheets is in contact with a corrugated sheet regularly without causing deformation to a honeycomb structure and thus a honeycomb carrier with a uniform cell structure is organized by using a winding member consiting of two bar- or sheet-like members as a core and winding a plain sheet and a corrugated sheet around the core in a laminated manner. CONSTITUTION:Winding member 5, 5 consisting of two bar- or sheet-like members with splits arranged in an opposite position at a fixed interval, are used as a core. In addition, a core part 1 consisting of a plain sheet 4 and a corrugated sheet, with the ends inserted into the splits of the winding members 5, 5 wound around the member in a laminated manner, is present on the periophery of the core. Further, the core part 1 is stored and fixed in a non- circular sleeve 2 to obtain a non-circular metal honeycomb carrier. Consequently, this carrier need not be deformed after the molding of a metal carrier, so that the junction strength and the gas stream distribution are no longer adversely affected. Thus, process steps are minimized and the manufacturing cost is economized. |
