RESISTANCE WELDING OF THERMOPLASTICS IN AEROSPACE STRUCTURE

We form joints between the rib (104) and spar (102) webs in a composite wingbox by welding the webs using heat along the bondline produced by connecting tabs on a susceptor (1) to a current source. Rib-spar web joints are difficult to create inductively because they fall in a plane where it is difficult to use fixed or moving induction coils to produce the current and resulting heating.
