PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polyester, having a specific inherent viscosity and useful especially for fibers by including specific recurring units therein. SOLUTION: This polyester, e.g. poly-(2-chloro-5-phenyl-1,4-phenylene terephthalate) is obtained by including (A) 35-50 mol% of a recurring unit represented by formula I, (B) 5-15 mol% of a recurring unit represented by formula II, III, IV or V and (C) 35-50 mol% of a recurring unit represented by formula VI and has at least 1.15 dl/g inherent viscosity (ηinh ). The resultant polyester has a fiber-forming molecular weight and can be melt spun. |
