PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium based alloy screw capable of producing a screw made of a magnesium based alloy excellent in strength with high productivity, and to provide a production method therefor. SOLUTION: The production method comprises: a head forging stage where wire made of a magnesium based alloy obtained by drawing is subjected to warm head working of forming the head part of a screw to produce a screw blank; and a rolling stage where the screw blank is subjected to warm rolling of forming a thread to produce a screw. In the head forging stage, the head working is performed using a holding die of fixing the wire and a punch of forming the head part of the screw; wherein, the holding die and punch are heated, and further, at least the holding die is heated to 140 to 250°C, so that the wire is heated to 140 to <250°C.
