PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin, high-performance photographic lens unit and an imaging apparatus having the photographic lens unit. SOLUTION: A zoom lens system ZL forms an optical image of an object. An imaging element SR receives the optical image in a rectangular imaging area and converts it into an electrical signal. The zoom lens system ZL includes a plastic lens PR that bends an optical path. The external shape of the final lens LM made of a resin is a non-circular shape that satisfies the following conditional expression: 1<TL/TS (TS represents the maximum external shape dimension in a direction parallel to the short sides of the imaging area, and TL represents the maximum external shape dimension in a direction parallel to the long sides of the imaging area).
