A system for driving and operating an elevator, realizing centralized management of drive and operation of the elevator by a touch panel in an elevator car or at a landing. Destination buttons (3), a wheelchair button (4), and a menu button (5) are arranged on a basic display used in normal operation of an elevator, the basic display being on a touch panel (1) placed in an elevator car or at a landing. When a destination button (3) is touched, destination call registration is performed. Also, when the wheelchair button (4) is touched, the operation mode is switched to a mode dedicated to a wheelchair. Further, when the menu button (5) is touched, the display is switched to a display with which various special operation commands can be performed.
