PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver or broadcast reception method with which broadcast can be viewed, while satisfying the requirements of a viewer, as much as possible, when simulcast broadcasting is received, using a receiving performance restricted broadcast receiver or broadcast reception method. SOLUTION: The broadcast receiver comprises a signal demodulation unit; a signal analysis unit which analyzes demodulated signals; an identical content program detecting unit for detecting the existence of a plurality of programs having identical contents, from the result of the signal analysis; a decoding enabled signal extracting unit for extracting decoding enabled signals in pieces of information, contained in the plurality of programs with the identical contents; an output signal selecting unit for selecting an outputting enabled signal from among the decoding enabled signals; a signal decoding unit for decoding the selected signal; and a signal output unit for outputting the decoded signal.
