A pedal mechanism for a motor vehicle comprises a bearing bracket 1 and a pedal lever 2, which is pivotably mounted about an axis of rotation on the bearing bracket 1, as well as a crash lever 8 which is pivotably mounted on the bearing bracket 1. The crash lever 8 has a cutting edge 9, which lies alongside the bearing of the pedal lever 2 on the bearing bracket 1, and a member 10 which engages around the pedal lever 2. In the event of a crash the crash lever 8 pivots about axis A, the cutting edge 9 is displaced relative to the bearing bracket 1 in order to release the pedal lever 2 from its bearing, and the member 10 pushes the pedal lever 2 in the direction of the bearing bracket 1. Since both the function of breaking open the pedal bearing and also the function of pivoting the pedal lever away from the driver are provided by the same component, namely the crash lever 8, the risk of functional interference is reduced to a minimum. |
