The method involves maintaining a voltage level and/or a power level of an electrical power supply system at a low level in an operating condition of a motor vehicle. The voltage level and/or the power level of the electrical system are temporarily brought into a high level in another operating condition of the vehicle. Driving conditions are detected and determined by a driving condition detection mechanism based on present behavior of a driver when steering the vehicle and/or a vehicle ahead such that the voltage level and/or the power level are temporarily brought to the high level. An independent claim is also included for a power supply system of a motor vehicle comprising a driving condition detection mechanism.
