<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an answering message to be controlled by not only an access from a telephone terminal but also user's operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An answering machine center server includes: a mailbox means which has storage areas for holding electronic mail addressed to users subscribing to the answering machine services, as mail boxes per user; a message registration means which generates the electronic mail having a recorded message attached thereto as a voice media file and holds the electronic mail in a mail box for a user being a terminating destination upon recording the message; a mail protocol processing means which accepts an operation request for a mail box from a terminal having a mail client application mounted thereon, in accordance with prescribed mail protocols; and a user management information storage means which stores telephone numbers, user identifiers in the mail protocols, and information for user authentication in association with each other as management information of users.
