<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate wasteful operation time through more efficiently executing measurement, and to always use an appropriate measurement value. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A control means of a recording apparatus suspends execution of PF measurement for measuring a PF measurement value (motor drive current value) which indicates a degree of the load of a PF motor for conveying paper, upon power-on of the apparatus, and executes the PF measurement after receiving a recording execution command according to a recording mode which uses the PF measurement value. After the execution of the PF measurement, the PF measurement value is stored in a storage means, and a PF measurement flag is set to "1" (completed). In the subsequent recording executions, when the PF measurement flag is "1", whether a predetermined period of time or more has elapsed from the previous measurement or not is determined, and when it is determined to be within the predetermined period of time from the previous measurement, the PF measurement value is read from the storage means and used.
