<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detection system for accurately refining a search range by reducing the processing load when searching for an object made of metal materials. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In searching for an object from a target image, only a section likely to include the object is set in advance as a search area. In this case, a pixel evaluation calculation formula to be applied to 4×4 pixel blocks, a pixel decision reference value and setting conditions based on a relation between a pixel evaluation value to be calculated by the pixel evaluation calculation formula and a pixel decision reference value are decided. As for the pixel decision reference value, in accordance with designation of a search object by a user (a), a value is set so as to set the designated place as the search object. Furthermore, in accordance with designation of a non-search object by the user (b), an already calculated pixel decision reference value is corrected so that the designated place can be set as the non-search object.
