A method for generating a magnetic resonance (MR) image from an examination area of a subject, comprising: operating a radio-frequency (RF) coil of an MR scanner, while an examination object is situated in the MR scanner, to radiate at least one inversion pulse that acts site-selectively on at least one inversion pulse range, said at least one inversion pulse range being situated at least partially outside of an examination area of the examination object; operating the RF coil of the MR scanner, while the examination object is situated in the MR scanner, to radiate at least one excitation pulse that causes MR signals to originate within said examination area; operating the MR scanner, while the examination object is situated therein, to read out said MR signals from said examination area; and providing said MR signals to a computer and, in said computer, reconstructing MR image data from the MR signals that were read out from said examination area, said MR image data depicting said examination area, and making said MR image data available from the computer in electronic form as a data file.
