A method and device for screening on-screen candidate items of an input method, which relate to the technical field of input methods. The method comprises: receiving a screening stroke sequence input by a user in an initial on-screen candidate item screening mode of an input method (120); matching the screening stroke sequence with a first stroke sequence of each initial on-screen candidate item (130); and adjusting the display position of each initial on-screen candidate item according to the matching result of the stroke sequence (140). Therefore, the problem that a user cannot quickly position a target candidate item because too many initial on-screen candidate items are corresponding to the key combination initially input by the user can be solved; a mode for screening again can be provided, and the initial candidate items are screened again through the stroke sequence; the efficiency for finding the target candidate item by the user is improved, and the beneficial effect of increasing the input efficiency is achieved. |
