The present invention provides a diagnostic device for motor vehicles which permits a flexible configuration of individual connecting contacts for a connection to a diagnostic terminal of a motor vehicle. For this purpose, the present invention also provides a switching matrix which makes flexible wiring possible and therefore permits individual connecting lines which connect to a vehicle to be diagnosed to be assigned to connecting lines for the diagnostic component of the diagnostic device. In addition, the present invention provides switching elements which permit a safe and reliable connection between the connecting lines of the diagnostic component and the diagnostic terminals of the motor vehicle. The switching elements comprise here, in particular, voltage-resistant and low-wear switching components on a semiconductor basis.
