The spherical cutting tool machines a pre-bored hole to size by combining a forward feed with an oscillatory movement relative to the component. The tool has cutting teeth over its surface and the oscillatory movement is obtained by relative rotation of tool and component about their respective geometric axes. These axes are arranged over an acute angle relative to each other. Oscillation of the tool may be imparted by a separate control or caused by the action of the hole to be machined, the component being separately controlled and the two axes meeting of the sphere.
