A camshaft drive for a V-type engine or a horizontally opposed (boxer) engine has two banks of cylinders arranged in a V shape, each of which has at least one camshaft, which is driven directly from the crankshaft by way of a flexible transmission. In this camshaft drive, a first flexible transmission (80, 76, 72, 78, 82, 70) for the camshaft (52) of one (14) of the banks of cylinders is arranged in one end region of the crankshaft (20) and a second flexible transmission (90, 92, 94, 96, 98, 100) for the camshaft (50) of the other bank (12) of cylinders is arranged in the other end region of the crankshaft (20); the flexible transmissions furthermore comprise at least one auxiliary shaft (72, 94), which is arranged to the side of and at a distance from the crankshaft (20) and is drivable by the crankshaft (20), both flexible transmissions being arranged within the minimum longitudinal extent (38, 40) of the banks (12, 14) of cylinders. <IMAGE>
