[Also in Division F2] In one modification of a valve according to the parent Specification, the obturators are formed by a single rotary plug 6 and the outlet pipes 2, 3, 4, 5 are arranged side-by-side around the plug axis. The axes of the outlet pipes may be coplanar and perpendicular to the plug axis (Figs. 1 and la, not shown), the plug being part cylindrical; or normal to the plug and inlet axis (Fig. 4, not shown), the plug 6 being a sector of a circular disc; or may be generators of a cone coaxial with axis of a conical plugthe inlet 1 may be coaxial with the plug (Fig. 2a, not shown), or inclined to it (Fig. 3, not shown), to allow the plug bearings to be outside the inlet. In another modification the valve is separated into a plurality of valve elements the single rotary plugs of which are rotated together for example by a gear train (Fig. 5b, not shown). Each element, which may have an axial or radial inlet may have one or two outlets. In a further modification (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown), each outlet has an internal wall rounded to smooth the flow through the angle leading into it, and to provide a throat the width of which measured along the plug axis, varies in the direction in which the plug moves, so that the throat area varies with plug position in a predetermined way. The wall may be extended upstream into the plug chamber (Fig. 8, not shown), a slit 14 being provided to permit the plug to pass.</p> |
