The device has at least three lift-and-roll devices (4 ) each comprising at least one electric lift-drive with an electric motor drive for the roller wheels, tracks or rollers of the lifting-and rolling devices (4), and associated with each carriage (1) for lifting the wheels (2) of the rail vehicle from the rail track, to allow the vehicle to be turned and/or displaced sidewards. A centring device, used to centre the rail vehicle relative to the rail track axis, is mounted on the underside of each carriage. Pref. the centring device uses a transverse beam provided with rail profile shoes, brought into contact with the track rails.
