The invention refers to the trilinear maize hybrid (Zea mays L. convar. indurata x dentiformis) named "Cristal", which is obtained by cross-breeding a simple hybrid (Lc.396 x Lc.449) with the Lc.453 inbred line, according to the formula (Lc.396 x Lc.449) x Lc.453, and is recommended to be cultivated in the areas III and IV of favourable temperature in Transylvania and Moldavia, as well as in the hill and field regions in the south and west of the country, for late sowing, or in successive irrigated cropping. The plants are 208 cm high, with yellow anthers and yellow-greenish stigmata. The cob is inserted at a height of 76 cm, and has an average weight of 114 g, of which 79 g represents the weight of the grains. The pith is white, the grain is yellow-orange and has a semi-glassy to glassy appearance, the weight for 1000 grains is 289 g and their hectolitric weight is 70.4 kg. The vegetation period is 106 to 121 days. The maize hybrid is resistant to drought and intense heat, falling and stalk breaking, and has average resistance to corn smut (Ustilago maydis) and Fusarium cob rot. A corn grain contains 12.07 percent protein, 70.32 percent starch and 4.92 percent fats. The hybrid generates productions of 7024 to 7464 kg/hectare.
