<p>A composition comprising mandelic acid useful for skin disinfection, such as the teat of a dairy cow, is disclosed. The disinfecting composition is in an aqueous form, or upon contact with water yields the same, having a pH of less than about 4.5, such that a significant amount of the mandelic acid is in a nonionic form. A co-acid (other than mandelic acid) or co-base may be added in order to adjust the pH of the composition in the aqueous form to the desired value. The composition may be topically applied to the skin to prevent and to treat skin infections.</p> |
