The system has a shelf (5) covering a space situated behind a back rest (8) of a seat, in a position corresponding to a closed position of a foldable roof (2). A unit moves the shelf towards a retractable position to allow passage of front and rear roof units (3, 4) towards a folded position inside a vehicles rear trunk (11). The shelf pivots with respect to the unit (4), when the roof is in the folded position. An independent claim is also included for a convertible vehicle provided with a seat.
