FLEXIBLE TRANSLATION STORAGE BUFFER FOR VIRTUAL ADDRESS TRANSLATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for TSB(translation storage buffer) which reduces the cost for making 6 context of the TSB ineffective by minimizing or eliminating the thrashing TSB between different processes. SOLUTION: The method for managing translation storage buffers(TSB) 150 to 160 supports pools consisting of TSBs of different size and dynamically allocates a process to a TSB of proper size when a request of a process changes. A small TSB is allocated to the process and the system moves the process to a larger TSB at need. As one method, the sizes of TSBs to be supported are discriminated and TSB pools having those sizes are allocated in the memory; and TSBs of proper size are selected for a process 158 and when the process requires more memory, the process is moved to larger sizes.
