PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emphasize the edge of an image or a character, etc., and to obtain a high quality image where only the edge of the image such as the character, etc., is sharpened by removing the shadow or a texture of a bookbound original binding part by means of image density correction and, after that, correcting the image resolution. SOLUTION: A spread bookbound original image is shortened by the bound part and is different from a true page image in length. Then, read image data processed by a read processing means 408 is stored in a bound part correcting means 409 which is provided with a buffer memory for a sub-scanning direction restoration processing by which delay for the portion of image extension is executed and the data is processed by bound part correction, transmitted to a write processing means 410 for executingγ-correction in accordance with variable power, MTF correction and the density reproduction of a laser printer 411 by following a setting mode in accordance with a write timing, processed by a gradation by a character or a photograph mode and transmitted to the laser printer 411. Then, emphasizing by the correction processing of the image resolution in a bookbound original, that is, an MTF processing is executed after the density restoration processing by a density multiplication as the correction processing of an image density so that the image where only the edge of the image part is sharpened is obtained.
