The damping device (3), capable of absorbing the impact force from frontal, rear and/or side collisions, comprises a hollow body (300) made from sheet metal, plastic or composite material. The sides of the body are deformed to form curved bulges (8) extending in a ring-shape around the body length axis (7). The degree of curvature is chosen to allow a controlled collapse of the body in a concertina manner.
