Drosophila immune-induced molecule (DIM) peptides are new. Peptides of formula A1A2A3A4A5A6A7A8A9A10A11A12A13A14A15A16A17A18A19A20A21A22A23 (I) and their fragments, are new. A1 = Glu, Gln or pyroglutamic acid (pGlu); A3, A6, A9, A22 = basic amino acids; A2, A4, A11, A13, A18 = hydrophobic amino acids; A5, A7, A8, A10, A12, A14, A15, A16, A17, A21 = negatively charged amino acids, small polar amino acids, large polar amino acids, Gly, Ala or Pro, and A19, A20, A23 = Ala, Gly, Ile, Phe, Ser, Tyr or Val. An Independent claim is also included for polypeptides comprising a DIM peptide and optionally terminal peptide residues necessary for expression and/or targeting of the DIM peptide in a host organism.
