<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nosing member which can be accurately and positively fixed to each step of a staircase without damaging the appearance of the same, and facilitates mounting thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The nosing member 10 is formed of a base member 11 which is fixed to an upper front end of a substrate treadboard 30 by means of a nail 40 or the like, and a cover member 12 having an almost L-shaped cross section and covering an upper surface of the base member 11 fixed to the substrate treadboard 30, and a front end face of the substrate treadboard 30. The base member 11 has a positioning projection 11j formed on a lower front end, for engaging with an upper corner of the substrate treadboard 30 to position a mounting location of the base member. Then the base member 11 has two fitting recesses 11f, 11g formed in the upper surface thereof, and the cover member 12 has two fitting projections 12c, 12d formed on a surface thereof opposed to the upper surface of the base member 11. Thus by fitting the fitting projections 12c, 12d into the respective fitting recesses 11f, 11g, the cover member 12 is fitted to the base member 11.
