PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a super-deep hydrodesulfurization method of light oil for reducing the concentration of sulfur in the light oil to 10 ppm or below without lowering the amount of hydrodesulfurization of the light oil or requiring the increase of a reaction column. SOLUTION: The hydrodesulfurization method of the light oil is characterized in that the light oil containing a sulfur component is brought into contact with a catalyst (1) in the first stage to be subjected to hydrodesulfurization and subsequently brought into contact with a catalyst (2) in the second stage to be subjected to hydrodesulfurization to reduce the sulfur component in the light oil to 10 ppm or below. Herein, the catalyst (1) is constituted by supporting the Group V1B metal component, the Group VIII metal component and a phosphorus component on a carrier based on alumina and the amount of ammonia adsorbed (1a) by an ammonia temperature-rising elimination method of the catalyst is 0.55 mmol/g or below while the catalyst (2) is constituted by supporting the Group VIB metal component, the Group VIII metal component and the phosphorus component on a silica-containing porous inorganic oxide carrier and the amount of ammonia adsorbed (2a) by the ammonia temperature-rising elimination method of the catalyst is 0.60 mmol/g or above.
