In a process and an apparatus for automatic replacement of program segments in a multimedia television broadcast stream at a receiver, said multimedia television broadcast stream is received; start and end points of a first program segment in said broadcast stream are detected, wherein at least one tag within the broadcast stream is detected and wherein a tag comprises at least: a unique indicator identifying the tag, and a tag type located in the tag's contents; and said first program segment is substituted with a new program segment from among a plurality of new program segments stored on a storage device during playback of said broadcast stream to a viewer.
