<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell power generating device with improved durability through the restraint of degradation due to the oxidation of an anode and a cathode at the stop of starting, and provide its operating method. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a fuel cell 5 consisting of an electrolyte 1, an anode 21, a cathode 22, a pair of separator plates 41, 42, a fuel gas substituting part for substituting all or part of oxidant gas remaining in the cathode 22 at the stop with fuel gas, and an inert gas substituting part for substituting all or part of the fuel gas remaining in the cathode at the starting with inert gas. Since the fuel gas is sealed at the stop, the degradation of the anode 21 and the cathode 22 due to oxidation can be restrained, and, since the fuel gas is substituted with the oxidant gas through the inert gas at the starting, hydrogen contained in the fuel gas and oxygen contained in the oxidant gas do not contact with each other at high concentration, that assures a safe start of power generation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
