COMPOSITE ROTARY SEAL ASSEMBLY

A composite seal assembly (10) for providing a seal between a rotating shaft (18) and a static surface (58). The composite seal assembly includes first (12) and second (14) axially adjacent annular seal elements. The first and second seal elements each include a sealing edge (62 and 64) contacting the shaft to provide a respective seal between the first and second seal element and the shaft. A static housing (23) receives the first and second seal elements and engages the static surface to provide a static stationary seal, while concomitantly providing a flex region (386) that engages the seal elements to form a dynamic seal therewith.
